Ashley Dorr

Ashley began practicing yoga to supplement her training as a runner. Through the years she recognized the transformative and spiritual components of yoga and her practice became a devoted part of her daily life.  Ashley is deeply grateful to her Ashtanga teachers, as well as influenced by her early teachers from Jivamukti, her acupuncturist Abdi Assadi, the dharma of Pema Chodron, and the inspiring students and clients she works with.

Ashley’s classes weave together energizing and creative vinyasa flow influenced by the tradition of ashtanga yoga and incorporate breath awareness, meditation, yoga philosophy/dharma, chanting, and great music. She hopes her students find both inner and outer strength, and also have some fun! She is also deeply committed to the belief that this practice gives us endless tools and metaphors for how to live life in a calmer, kinder, steadier way.

Ashley is also a licensed art psychotherapist in private practice, working with clients of all ages. She continues to work globally using art therapy, mindfulness, and yoga as methods of healing for trauma survivors. Ashley has spent 4 years traveling to India for month-long studies to practice Ashtanga with Sharath Jois and Sharmila Desai, learn the ancient art of rangoli drawing, and soak up as much wisdom from India as she can to bring back to her students. She loves to travel whether it's leading retreats or at the beach in Montauk, all the while, seeing yoga in the details along the way.

When she is not teaching yoga or in her art therapy office you can often catch her in Fort Greene running around with her beloved rescue dog, Soumy.
