The Hummingbird’s main goal is to serve disenfranchised members of our local community.
For many years, we have made steps toward building a place where the true essence of yoga, a sense of action and support and shared humanity, is at the heart of what we do. We have raised money/volunteered for end of life care/companionship, people experiencing homelessness, numerous animal welfare organizations, emergency relief, and much more. There are so many blind spots in our system that leave the disenfranchised without a voice, power...and, in many cases, dignity, tenderness and compassion.
So, Prema Hummingbirds was born: a 501c3 pending non-profit arm of Prema Yoga Brooklyn where we will, like hummingbirds do, attempt to lean in softly but clearly wherever there is a need. We will use our pre-existing space, vetted volunteer community and access to financial resources to foster connection, companionship, provide basic provisions and support one project at a time. We will work independently as well as cooperatively with organizations with the intention of empowering vulnerable populations to lead fulfilling and productive lives. Through our actions, we can begin to look at us all as connected, interdependent and an amalgamation of individuals whose needs and hearts are best served one unique being at a time. As Hummingbirds do, let's spread our love."
As a studio, we also set aside a portion of each week's profits to send financial assistance to organizations we support who are in need.
From food insecurity to elder care, animal welfare and child poverty, we hope to be a support in small incremental ways. While we are ambitious, we know that getting started is the hardest part and so here we are.
